Dawlish Railway opens ahead of schedule

Tony Gee part of the ‘Herculean’ effort to restore the railway line

Today saw the re-opening of the main railway line at Dawlish, which was destroyed in early February 2014. Tony Gee acted as design consultants to Network Rail for the design for repairs to the main breach, retained sea wall and cliffs along the 6.4km stretch of exposed coastline.

Prime Minister David Cameron, who visited the site today, described the scheme as an ‘engineering triumph’ and praised the ‘herculean’ effort of the whole team that the local community have affectionately named the ‘Orange Army’.
