Brisbane Gateway Upgrade, Australia

Synopsis:
Construction engineering services, temporary works design, independent checking of other elements
Contractor:
Leighton Abigroup Joint Venture
End Client:
Queensland Department of Main Roads

This project comprises the duplication of the Gateway Bridge across the Brisbane River, upgrading 20 km of the Gateway Motorway (including a new deviation north with improved access to Brisbane Airport), refurbishment of the existing Gateway Bridge and a 10-year maintenance period. Tony Gee provided construction engineering services for the precast segmental approach spans of the main Gateway Bridge.

Tony Gee prepared the shop drawings for the precast segments and devised the geometry control system for casting the segments. We also computed the precambers of the bridge deck so that the balanced cantilevers will match upon erection, designed some temporary works and carried out the independent design check of the mainspan form travellers.
