Tony Gee was appointed to produce the detailed design for a new depot at New Cross Gate, which was one of the first schemes for the expansion of the East London Line. The services included all civils disciplines, Mechanical and Electrical, services co-ordination, architectural, fire and acoustic advice.
The depot site was extremely constricted being split by Cold Blow Lane below, generating a drainage and services restriction, and by the up track flyover crossing the site diagonally between the maintenance building. The remainder of this site contained the wheel lathe, carriage wash and 21 berthing and servicing sidings. The site also housed the Operational Building Complex and Traction Substation.
