King Street Bridge carries the B5444 road over a former railway cutting spanning an access road between a car park and retail outlets. The single 9 m span bridge was constructed with a slight skew and comprises cast iron beams with transversely spanning brick jack arches.
The bridge was recently assessed as being unable to sustain the required 40 tonne assessment live loading.
Tony Gee was commissioned to undertake all feasibility works to determine suitable strengthening options and the design/contract documentation for the strengthening works. The bridge was reinforced using carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates.
Tony Gee also acted as Planning Supervisor for the project with responsibility for drawing up Health and Safety documentation.
