The design brief was to develop a new method for switching a monorail system from a feeder rail to up to five siding rails. The loading was complex. Fatigue and reliability demands were very high. The design development was made in close cooperation with the client whose trains were to run on the system.
Simplicity of fabrication was of high great importance, but mechanical safety and simplicity was even more important. The mechanical linkage of the system was a prime feature of the system.
