A unique temporary works solution was required to enable the completion of bridge deck replacement works within a 54-hour possession in a remote location.
Tony Gee undertook the design of a temporary lifting frame for the purpose of supporting a new steel bridge deck above its permanent location during demolition of the existing timber deck below which was to be replaced by the new steel deck.
The bridge was brought to site on the back of a train wagon and then lifted off and temporarily fixed into position on the lift frame brackets and released from the chain blocks. The track and old bridge were then demolished underneath the suspended new bridge. Once complete, the new bridge was lifted off the brackets and lowered down onto the new piled abutments.
