Tony Gee was retained to devise methods of erecting the six main pylons and erecting and preloading the complex cable stay system for this unusual stadium structure in North Africa. The brief extended to the monitoring and control of the pylon lifting and cable tensioning operations on site.

The pylons are slender structures with viewing platforms at the top end and thus the erection scheme requires careful consideration of the lifting methods to avoid structural change to any of the components during the lifting operation.

The preloading of cables had to be phased carefully to avoid damage to the roof framing and to maintain global stability of the structure while maintaining a situation where work can be restricted to a single pylon at any one time.
