A Presidential Visit from the ICE

Geoff French, the 149th President of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), visited Tony Gee’s Head Office in Esher on Wednesday 9th July.

The visit gave our staff the opportunity to discuss topical issues directly with the President as well as profiling our work to the ICE.

The visit commenced with an address from Geoff focusing on current industry challenges and his Presidential themes. This was followed with a meeting with our Directors covering items such as the implementation of BIM and the ICE’s future role and direction.

The President was then given a guided tour of the office where he was introduced to members in all of our technical groups who explained their current projects. This was followed by an in-depth presentation on our on-going work at Dawlish reinstatement works in Devon.

Finally, our students, graduates and apprentices were given the opportunity to address their questions to the President directly in a Q&A forum session. Design Engineer Izabela Cieciwa commented that “meeting the President gave us a great opportunity to discuss the challenges in addressing the global issues that we currently face. It reminds us of how important our role as Civil Engineers will be in creating the global infrastructure of the future.”

Geoff was delighted with his visit and noted that the Institution will be seeking to engage more with companies like Tony Gee.
