Tony Gee pledges to achieve Carbon Net Zero

Tony Gee pledges to achieve carbon net zero.

Tony Gee has signed up to ‘Pledge to Net Zero’ as our commitment to the use of science-based targets to achieve net zero for our operational carbon by 2050.  The pledge was established to commit organisations from the environmental sector to take a leading role in the transition to a Net Zero carbon economy.

As a signatory we have pledged to:

  • Set and commit to delivering a greenhouse gas target in line with either a 1.5°C or well below 2°C climate change scenario – covering buildings and travel as a minimum;
  • Publicly report greenhouse gas emissions and progress against this target each year; and
  • Publish one piece of research or thought-leadership piece each year on practical steps to deliver a net zero greenhouse gas economy.

We have been working hard to gain an accurate baseline for our emissions from our UK operations and are developing an action plan to deliver net zero well in advance of the government’s 2050 target.

Natalie Cropp, Sustainability Director, said:

“We all need to step up to play our part in addressing the carbon challenges we face.  Having consulted our staff last year, it was fantastic to see overwhelming support for taking action in addressing our own carbon emissions.  The Pledge Net Zero gives us the framework and the reporting requirements give us that public accountability for taking action.  It will be a challenge, but solving difficult problems is what our engineers are best at.  I look forward to working with our management team and staff across the board to deliver meaningful action.”

By taking on this pledge, we hope that we will encourage other companies in the construction sector to take the step to protect our planet.
