Technical Rail Director – Stonehouse

Tony Gee is a successful, employee owned engineering design consultancy, employing in the region of 450 people. The business operates from seven UK and three overseas offices. Tony Gee has a reputation for taking on highly complex technical work with a bias towards design and build contracts, working closely with Contractors in developing integrated temporary and permanent works solutions.

Continual growth has opened up an opportunities for a Technical Director within the Rail sector based in our Stonehouse office.

It is expected that candidate will have a proven track record in technical design work within the rail infrastructure sector, covering both single discipline civil and structural engineering design, as well as multi-discipline design projects. They should possess an enthusiasm and desire for overcoming technical challenges and delivering innovative solutions to clients.

We are looking for candidate who have strong management and communication skills, but are also comfortable maintaining a hands-on approach to design work. They must be able to lead teams across multiple projects with a focus on providing an excellent level of service to our Clients. We are unashamedly focused on technical excellence which enables us to undertake complex and technically challenging schemes which many other consultants avoid. This provides an environment in which technically orientated engineers can thrive and progress to the Executive Board, based upon being great engineers without the requirement to manage large P&L accounts to do so.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Leading the technical, commercial and programme delivery of design projects within the rail sector, maintaining a technical hands-on approach.
  • Providing guidance and training to Engineering and BIM Designers to ensure projects are delivered to a high standard.
  • Act as a technical reviewer and Civil Engineering Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) on projects.
  • Proactively manage Clients with the aim of delivering an excellent level of service.
  • Contribute to the preparation of tenders, fee proposals and securing new business.
  • Be a strong communicator and be able to lead meetings.
  • Be an ambassador for Tony Gee and prepared to be involved in industry, community and academic initiatives.

Key experience required:

  • Relevant Civil or Structural Engineering degree.
  • Chartered Engineer with a minimum of 10 years’ technical experience in Rail Infrastructure design work.
  • Experience of leading teams in both single discipline Civil and Structural, and multi-discipline design projects.
