Tony Gee & Partners provided a wide range of specialist structural engineering services in support of the Abu Dhabi Midfield Terminal, one of the largest airport developments in the Middle East. Working for several major contractors and specialist suppliers, the practice delivered detailed structural design, temporary works engineering, connection design, independent design checking and design assurance services across numerous packages associated with the terminal’s roof, architectural finishes, ceiling systems and specialist installations. A significant element of Tony Gee’s involvement related to the terminal’s iconic long-span roof structure.
Appointed by China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), the team undertook the design of secondary steel connections across extensive areas of the roof structure, which comprised inclined truss arches, primary girders, secondary girders, backstay trusses and transfer structures.
Services included structural analysis, connection design calculations, coordination of connection modifications within the Tekla model and participation in technical review meetings with the contractor, consultant team and approval authorities
