Queens Medical Centre
The Queens Medical Centre campus is the UK’s largest independent NHS Treatment Centre. The centre carries out a selection of day operations impacting on waiting lists.
Tony Gee undertook all structural and civil engineering design work and planning supervision, in collaboration with Architects One20 and Service Engineers Troup Bywaters and Anders.
The structure is a flat slab concrete frame supported on piles with a steel framed plantroom at roof level. Vibration analysis complied with HTM 2045 vibration limits for the five operating rooms and for the MRI scanner installation.
The challenges of stringent NHS vibration criteria, a cramped site and a short design period have been overcome by the team to produce a building the NHS can be proud of.
