Victoria Station Upgrade
London, UK
Tony Gee was the designer of the PAL#6 underpass connecting the new and south ticket halls as part of the £300m upgrade at Victoria Underground station.
The new roof slab of the District and Circle line underpass was constructed in a six day blockade of the line over Christmas 2014. As part of our innovative design, the roof slab includes a complex arrangement of embedded circular hollow section steel ‘needles’ within sleeves. These were extracted through core holes drilled in the walls of the D&C tunnel from hand excavated galleries, and casted into reinforced concrete beams.
This unique alternative design removed the need for a three month closure of the District and Circle line required to construct the original design.
