William Harvey Hospital
Tony Gee was appointed to provide the structural engineering design services associated with the proposed extension to the existing Cellular Pathology Link Corridor. The extension comprises office accommodation. The services provided also included the design and specification of below ground drainage systems, including alterations to the existing local system.
The drainage design for this project required careful consideration as there were several manholes located on the site and access to the drainage runs connected to these manholes needed to be maintained.
Tony Gee provided the design for the roof in which ceiling joist heights were adjusted so that a services zone could be created. During the design stages Tony Gee was constantly informing the client of any issues that had been found such as a downpipe that would pass a window and a service duct that was to be put under a hard standing. With clear communication the decision was left with the client and a solution was quickly found.
Tony Gee worked closely with East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust to ensure that their requirements for the engineering work were fulfilled. A problem occurred when some of the plant that was on the hard standing was to be positioned above a manhole cover. However Tony Gee gave the client three possible solutions to the problem and an opinion on the best solution so that it could be resolved in the easiest way and the job was still finished as scheduled.
