Supporting Delivery of a Landmark Section of the A417

On Friday 18th September the A417 ‘Missing Link’ became no more!

After years of collaborative hard work from all involved, a new stretch of road opened on Friday morning, allowing drivers to travel from the M5 to the M4 via the A417 without having to navigate the infamous Air Balloon roundabout, making congestion and tailbacks in the area a thing of the past.

The whole of the new A417 Missing Link alignment is now open to traffic, albeit with limited lanes and temporary speed restrictions in place whilst the remaining works are completed over the coming months. For the first time ever, drivers will be able to experience an uninterrupted journey from junction 11a of the M5 through to Cirencester, Swindon and the M4, easing traffic congestion and improving journeys for thousands of motorists.

Tony Gee has provided ongoing support during construction, both on site and from our design offices, to the contractor Kier Infrastructure and end client National Highways on this important piece of new infrastructure.

Work will continue until Spring 2027 where additional lanes will be opened and two new bridges installed, one of which will be the largest environmental crossing in the country.
